I’ve encountered a minor but annoying bug in Movable Type 4.0 - It’s already been submitted to the folks at Six Apart but I am posting it here with a semi-workable work around in case some one needs it before the next update is available.

The bug manifests itself two ways:

  1. A tag can not be renamed to a new tag that begins with the letter ‘x’.
  2. A tag can not be renamed to a new tag that begins with a capital letter or a sequence of numerals followed by a capital letter on any page in the “Manage Tags” interface after the first page.

This seems to be some sort of conflict with some access keys and javascript. While I don’t have a work around for the first manifestation of this bug you can rename a few more of your tags (and possibly the ones you want to rename) by simply clicking on Display Options and selecting Show 100 rows.

Another reason to, although temporary, to follow Ian Beck’s advice on tagging rather than John Grubers..

Hope that tides you over until the bug gets fixed.
