Launch
Today I announce the relaunch of shmuel.org in it’s new home here at samuel.bowles.es. While some things will look familiar others have disappeared or been simplified. I now have only one blog (before there were two: one for long-form features and another for quick updates), I’ve introduced a photo gallery and a section devoted to my now aging CD, These Roots That Bind Me, which as of today is available as a free download. The album is also now available under a Creative Commons license loosening the restrictions of copyright a fare bit.
In the header on the front page you will notice I have added two status gages. The location data is powered by Plazes which tracks my location by MAC address and SMS messages from my phone. The status data employs an algorithm that measures data from my email inbox (number of messages in my inbox, number unread, number flagged), my calendar (how many events scheduled today, are any of them current), and my todo list (number of todos undone, number with a deadline of today). It boils all of this information down to a 1-5 score which is used to determine the color and position of the status meter above. Once I have the algorithm a bit more tuned I will double it’s precision to 1-10.
Finally I should note that there are still a few niggly things here and there so if you come across a broken link or error message please drop me a line and let me know. I’ll also be bringing back more content from the past version of my site over time so if you’re looking for something old that you really think should make the cut for the new site let me know about that too.
Thanks for dropping by and I hope the new site will inspire new and more frequent updates.
